Data Protection

Organisations and individuals within organisations have a further “duty of care” obligation to ensure that the confidential data they hold is not released in an unauthorised or accidental way, particularly that relating to employees or customers. This includes storage media such as hard disk drives. Non-compliance can lead to heavy fines, compensation for individuals whom have suffered unauthorised disclosure of confidential data (section 13 DPA 99), and brand damaging media exposure. Software licensing also usually prohibits resale, therefore IT equipment must be eradicated of all licensed software.

To ensure complete security our processes are matched to suit your requirements and in most cases exceed those stipulated by the Data Protection Act 1998. We use specialist data overwriting and disk formatting software by Blancco.

Hard Drives that are faulty or cannot be wiped of data are physically impaired rendering the unit inoperable prior to recycling through an approved process.

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is one of the fastest growing elements in the municipal waste process.
There are many hazardous substances used in electrical and electronic equipment including lead, cadmium, mercury, bromine
compounds and arsenic.

Disposal poses a real threat to the environment and as such the EC has issued the WEEE Directive that aims to reduce the
waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment. The WEEE Directive sets targets that 65% of IT equipment must
be recycled and materials such as CRT’s, LCD displays, printed circuit boards, batteries and flame retardant plastics are
pre-treated before disposal. Our services provide complete compliance to the WEEE Directive and we already exceed these
requirements with our partners.
